Family Sponsorship

YOUR REUNION PLANS BY OUREXPERT HANDS

Canada is one of the most livable countries in the world, with stunning natural beauty, a highly developed and stable economy, and a high standard of living. These factors provide an excellent foundation for residents. After obtaining permanent residency, many people wish to sponsor their family members to come to Canada so they can live, work, and study together.

"The Canadian government places great importance on family unity and has consistently introduced various family sponsorship visa and immigration policies. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan, there are 100,000-110,000 spots allocated annually for family reunification. As long as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident meets the required financial criteria, they can sponsor their relatives to come to Canada and enjoy the same benefits as Canadians in healthcare, education, childcare, employment, and more."

Canada’s family reunification immigration program is designed to help Canadian citizens and permanent residents sponsor their family members to immigrate to Canada and live together with them.

Spouse and Children Sponsorship for Permanent Residency

Spousal sponsorship applies to partners who have cohabited for over one year, are legally married, or cannot cohabit due to uncontrollable circumstances. Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their spouse to obtain permanent residency through either inland or outland sponsorship.

For child sponsorship, at least one parent must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. Children under 22 years old, or those who are dependent due to health issues, can be sponsored. After immigration, spouses and children can enjoy work, study, and local social benefits.

Parent Sponsorship for Permanent Residency

Separated by oceans, many immigrants can only visit their parents once a year or even less frequently. Canadian permanent residents and citizens can apply for a Super Visa for their parents, allowing them to stay for up to 5 years per visit.

However, Super Visa holders are classified as visitors in Canada and must purchase their own health insurance. In contrast, parents sponsored for permanent residency are entitled to government healthcare and senior benefits. After immigration, parents can live as local residents in Canada, enjoy social activities, and participate in programs designed for new immigrants and communities, enriching their retirement life in Canada.

Single Canadian residents Can Sponsor Non-Immediate Relatives

According to Canadian immigration laws, if a Canadian citizen or permanent resident has no close family members in Canada and does not have a spouse, partner, children, parents, grandparents, siblings, nieces, or nephews to sponsor, they may sponsor a more distant relative or their family members to immigrate to Canada.

However, if parents are still alive and the applicant’s income is sufficient to sponsor them, this provision cannot be used to sponsor other relatives.
